*November 7: **USGBC Green Luncheon "New Urbanism"** - /Albuquerque, NM
/*11:30am-1pm at Indian Pueblo Cultural Center 2401 12th St NW, 87104
Cost: $25 USGBC‐NM Members; $30 Non‐members; $18 Emerging Green
Builders; $5.00 additional fee after 11/2 <http://www.usgbcnm.org/>
There have been 2 patterns of development in American history - the
traditional neighborhood pattern, and the suburban pattern. "New
Urbanism" presenter, Rob Dickson, provides a visual comparison showing
the differences, and showing why urbanism is more important than
architecture to the green building movement.
Rob is a New Urbanist real estate developer based in Albuquerque, NM.
He developed The Lofts at Albuquerque High and BelVedere/Urban Courtyard
Living, involving the conversion of 4 historic school buildings into
residential and office uses, and the construction of a number of new
buildings on surrounding sites containing residential, retail, office,
and civic uses. The total project value is about $50 million. It was
done in 4 phases between 2001-2008.
Mr. Dickson holds an accounting degree from Southern Illinois University
and a law degree from the University of North Carolina. He is also a
licensed real estate broker, was heavily involved in the funding and
creation of the East Downtown (EDo) Master Plan in Albuquerque, a
Form-Based Code for the revitalization of Broadway Boulevard and Central
Avenue, and hopes to begin construction in Fall 2012 on an historic
rehabilitation of the De Anza Motor Lodge in Upper Nob Hill into 39
rental apartments plus a café. Rob also recently served on the
Environmental Planning Commission for the City of Albuquerque, is a
member of Congress for the New Urbanism, the National Trust for Historic
Preservation, and the Sierra Club, is Executive Director of the EDo
Neighborhood Association, and was Vice Chair of the Governor’s Task
Force on “Our Communities, Our Future” whose reports are entitled
“Livability!” and “Querencia”.
