NMSEA Protests PNM’s Proposed “SOLAR ACCESS TARIFF” at PRC Hearing/*
NMSEA extends its sincere *THANKS *to all our members and supporters who
turned out on Wednesday afternoon and evening to let the PRC hear that
we oppose PNM’s proposed 8¢ per kWh tariff on new grid-interconnected
customer solar photovoltaic systems. The PRC hearings were held to
receive public comments on PNM’s proposed 21% overall rate hikes, but as
many people—if not more—showed up to protest the solar access tariffs
than those protesting the general rate hikes. PRC District 1
Commissioner Jason Marks commented afterward that this was the most
well-attended and lively hearing he has ever presided over.
*What’s Next?* While the PRC will consider all of our comments in its
decision of the PNM rate case, PNM is in negotiations with the PRC and
the NM Attorney General to reach a settlement. No details have been
released on this yet. Meanwhile, Sen. Peter Wirth (D-Santa Fe-25) has
introduced legislation (SB-137) PROHIBITING additional rates on
customer-generators, effectively repealing the provision of the 2010
HB-181 that allowed PNM to propose these solar access tariffs. You can
continue to help protect your solar rights by contacting your State
Senator and State Representative in support of SB-137. And stay tuned
here for more developments.

Get More Sun This Winter!//
Time's growing short for you to take advantage of the great offer Solar
Nation is bringing you. As we told you last month, you can join the
American Solar Energy Society (ASES) before the end of January for less
than two-thirds of the regular price. That's just two weeks away!
ASES is the foremost nonprofit association of solar advocates,
educators, legislators, and professionals in the United States. It's
where people interested in solar go to learn more; where people looking
to install solar go to find professionals in their area and where those
professionals go to stay informed, build connections and join technical
groups.
Established in 1954, ASES has provided educational opportunities for
professionals and advocates, helped shape policy both locally and
nationally, and produced the award-winning SOLAR TODAY magazine. As
ASES Board member Nate Mitten says, “ASES was proclaiming the promise of
renewable energy a long, long time before ‘green’ was mainstream.”
* SOLAR TODAY
<http://ases.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=14&Itemid=22>
