*Course Overview*
The PV Design and Design & Installation Courses are for anyone
interested in learning more about solar electricity, siting, sizing and
safely installing a PV system. These courses are relevant and suitable
for electricians, as well as homeowners or others without professional
electrical backgrounds and training.
Topics will cover "photovoltaic" (solar electric) components, designing
and sizing a solar electric system, siting, and configuration of
stand-alone (off-grid) and grid-tied (utility-connected) systems, safety
and energy efficiency. Tuition includes instruction, all course
materials (including a copy of Solar Energy International's
"Photovoltaics Design and Installation Manual"), lunches and snacks.
This course will be instructed by Randy Sadewic, a graduate of San Juan
College. Randy co-owns Positive Energy, Inc., a company that designs and
installs PV systems. Randy is certified by the North American Board of
Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP). Students will also have the
opportunity to hear from local PV business owners, installers and other
PV experts during this course, with possible evening slide shows and
talks from members of the New Mexico Solar Energy Association (NMSEA),
determined by the group's interest.
Class begins with three days in the classroom, hands-on labs, and
possible visiting instructors. Participants who register for the full
5-day class will continue on to install a photovoltaic system the final
two days of class. Students must attend all 5 days of this class to
receive a Certificate of Completion.
Electricians who complete this class are eligible for continuing
education credit through CID, the State of New Mexico's Construction
Industries Division, and may seek to expand business by adding solar to
their service line.
