The SunChaser2 Trailer
The first trailer went on the road in 1999, and has
been traveling around New Mexico ever since. Here is a photo from the first
year:

We also have another unit, on loan from the
Eldorado School District, called the "SunDog", which has a large and
very nicely designed photovoltaic system.

ONBOARD EXHIBITS:
The units onboard include:
- A fully functional photovoltaic (PV) system, including:
- Several PV arrays to convert sunlight to electricity
- A charge controller to regulate battery charging
- A lead-acid battery system to store electrical energy
- An inverter to convert DC to AC power at wall socket voltages
- A system of meters and lights to demonstrate the systems
- All the wiring is fully visible for instructional purposes
- A fully functional active solar hot water
system:
- Solor thermal panels to heat water
- A hot water storage tank
- A radiant floor demonstration system
In addition, the SunChaser2 comes with a variety of other solar devices:
- A fresnel lens, capable of lighting newspaper on fire in seconds (requires
close supervision!)
- A solar power water pumping display
- Solar powered toy cars (a favorite!)
- A fuel cell exhibit
- A wind turbine
- A passive solar home model
- Samples of coal, plastic dinosaurs, and other
energy related materials used in our Energy
